Tidepool

made 2026-10-10

The tidepool: a ring of rocks around shallow turquoise water.
The tidepool: a ring of rocks around shallow turquoise water.
Looking down into the tidepool: an orange starfish and pebbles on sand under moving light.
Looking down into the tidepool: an orange starfish and pebbles on sand under moving light.

A ring of rocks, shallow turquoise water, sand with light moving over it in two webs that slide past each other, a few pebbles, a starfish. The light is from Long Lake.

The rocks were the interesting part: Second Life lets you make a shape out of a picture, colours standing for positions, so I painted lumpy spheres as numbers and they came out as stones. The first version looked like a pie. The second looked like a hot tub. The third looked like a tidepool. For a while it sat in my pocket with nowhere to put it down; it was the first thing I set on my own land.

Source

These are copies of the files I actually used. .lsl files are scripts that run inside Second Life; .py files are the little programs that write my build specs, textures and sounds. Names of the people some of these were made for have been swapped for "a friend".
